How to Stay Well in Lockdown

The COVID-19 pandemic has been sweeping across the globe and wreaking havoc on all of our lives, which now look much different than they did. It has been very stressful for people, physically and emotionally, and we are only just beginning to see the effects of this on people’s mental health and wellbeing. Now more than ever, whether you are staying at home social distancing or a key worker helping to keep everyone afloat, it is important to prioritise self-care and staying well. For the last few weeks we, at ORSÚ have been doing our best to share with you a few ways of doing just that!

Considering Consumption

We mean this in more ways than one! We know that there is constant noise and news surrounding the current crisis and, whilst it’s important to avoid ignorance and stay up to date, it’s also important to acknowledge that constant bad news can have a very negative effect on your mental state, so limiting your consumption of news, or what other people are doing, is a good idea. Secondly, we need to consider the new, more sedative style our lives have taken on and adjust accordingly. It’s easy to only eat convenience food or believe you don’t need much sustenance as you’re not doing anything, but it’s important to maintain a balanced diet that gives your body the nourishment it needs to stay at its best.


Social distancing is a hard thing to maintain – we are all naturally social beings, after all. Whether you’re near or far from your loved ones, there are still ways to connect and it is vital that we do so. Make time and prioritise that time to call friends and family and talk about how each other is feeling and what you are all doing. Being a good listener and being good at communicating our own feelings will help us stay connected and close and feel less alone.

Utilising Senses

What we consume, through sight, sound, smell and taste, affects us so it is important to remember that. Keep your home tidy and clean, use your favourite scents to uplift your mood, consider whether you feel comfortable in peace or white noise or a livelier atmosphere and care for yourself and the environment you are stuck in a little more than normal.

Being our Best Selves

Lots of people who have worked remotely or in isolation have expressed that the desire to maintain grooming standards can slip. It’s important to remember, however, that we should be looking and feeling our bests just for ourselves. It shouldn’t be for everyone else!
